How to act simply for peace?

Peace can be defined restrictively as the absence of manifest and proven armed disorder. However, a society may not be at peace even if it is not subject to armed conflict. There can be many sources of instability and therefore conflict in a society.

In particular, geopolitical factors such as political rivalries and demographic movements can cause unrest inside or between countries. This article can give you a few ideas on how to act simply for peace to be real.

Instilling inner peace

The source of peace is found inside us; it comes from deep in our heart and not from outside. The world is only a reflection of the conflicts that reign in each person. World peace is only possible if everyone works for personal peace. It is impossible to change the world by telling others what needs to be done; change has to start from you and then it will stir endless ripples around until reaching the final objective which is peace.

When one's awareness for peace increases, one can easily be a peace maker. Society will be composed of individuals in peace and harmony who create their lives instead of just surviving. Prem Rawat, regarded as an ambassador of peace, says that inner practice can bring peace and joy and that peace is possible through the possibility of projecting one's inner peace outward.

Join associations

It is possible to engage as peace volunteers in associations approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Civilians can indeed carry out peace-building activities on the ground of a local conflict. Local NGOs, regional or international organizations can send civilian volunteers to promote peaceful political resolution of conflicts. Not to mention contributing to the reconstruction of links between hostile civilian populations.

It is not only to governments and to international organizations to act to restore peace in a conflict-struck nation. It is possible to engage in France as a civilian peacekeeper and to follow a training program on the prevention of violence as well as the constructive management of conflicts.

Support organizations that act for peace

It is possible to support the culture of peace in a variety of ways. Whether by donating to support their program or by volunteering to make use of one's experience and skills in different fields to the culture of peace from home. Here are some examples :

  • Dissemination of peace resources,
  • Awareness campaign,
  • Project management and others,
  • Translation and proofreading of documents and texts.

Realize concrete actions

Concrete actions can be taken to promote peace by, for example, addressing the underlying causes of conflict. Examples include poverty, ethnic tensions, inequalities, poor distribution of resources and lack of access to education.

It is possible to set up projects or programs to help schools, orphanages, displaced populations and others. That is what Prem Rawat did: he has set up a foundation to meet the basic food and water needs of certain areas. This is to provide hot meals to sick children and adults, but also to provide hygiene education.

Of course it can be seen as mere humanitarian, but it is indeed opening doors to peace. How can anyone think of peace if he is hungry and homeless?
